EEEEExams

Good morning,

I came back! I'm sorry for a such long absence but I was full of exams in my uni and I really couldn't write anything.

So... what happened? Actually anything that interesting. At least first almost all the Uni's things have almost finished and I will relax a bit.

What do you think about exams? Do we really need them? I mean, of course there should be a way to judge people's skills but... in my opinion at the same time doing that we risk to create more appeal on the mark than on the real topic. The stress linked to the exam can worsen the students' performance, and and the result doesn't always reflect the value of the person.

Working in the school, I realise that the fear of being judge is bigger than I thought before. I tried, during my course, to be very kind to my students. I talked them as a big brother, saying honestly that in my opinion to do a test is not the best idea after 7 classes of a completely new language. I told them that I'm not going to give bad marks, and that even something is written wrong I will correct this with them to correct and put the correct answer. I mean.... whan can I do more than this? But, finally, during the test, people start to cheat as well. It was a bit sad, because I really tried my best to not get this point... but evidently it wasn't enough. I think just that people, knowing that someone is going to give them a mark, try everything to have a good "number", forgetting what is more important.

So, in conclusion, I'm a bit sad about that. I don't like exams.. but I understand that we need them. The problem is how we approach to them. Probably since the beginning we should be more appreciated for the results than for the marks. To not create a "mark ossession" which obscures the true goal of the study: the knowledge.
